70 years of the “8 inch Zala pipe”

2009-09-26

On September 26, 2009, KVV was present at the 40 year jubilee event of the Hungarian Oil Industry Museum (Magyar Olajipari Múzeum – MOIM). The museum exhibition “70 years of the 8 inch Zala pipe” was opened during this event.

At the exhibition an original 8 inch part of the 70-years-old pipeline that was replaced in 2009 is also on display and was donated to the museum by KVV.

As part of the 70 year jubilee, KVV greeted the first leading engineer of the company, Ferenc Zachemszki (91 years old this year) and the “golden-handed” welder of the facility, Márton Nagy, who is 95 this year.

“The past has become an unforgettable treasure. Everybody remembers it as a time when there was great solidarity between pipeline builders in their job and beyond. American work organization and earnings were flavoured with Hungarian virtue, therefore the work done was exceptional. The knowledge, work ethic and spirit of pipeline building was handed down to coming generations. Part of the method was to continuously train the successors, which mainly meant the transfer of acquired knowledge.”
